Ads and income continue to fall at JRC

The Journal Register Co. announced a second quarter net income of $6.5 million this morning, a steep drop off from the $11.5 million it posted during the same quarter last year. JRC, which owns the New Haven Register, the New Britain Herald and the Bristol Press, along with Imprint Newspapers, is in the midst of a massive cost-cutting operation that resulted in the closing earlier this month of its production and printing operations in New Britain. Sales at the company’s Michigan papers were particular laggards, dragging the company’s advertising numbers down from $103.6 million in last year’s second quarter to $92.7 million this year.
