Unemployment insurance rates will remain at a steady level this year after Gov. Deval Patrick froze a scheduled rate increase that he expects will save business $400 million statewide.
Due to low reserve levels in the Unemployment Trust Fund, an automatic increase of about $300 per employee was scheduled to go into place this year.
Patrick, however, signed legislation Thursday that freezes UI rates at their current levels.
Patrick said despite freezing the rates, there will be no impact on those collecting unemployment benefits.
