Pending home sales in Massachusetts rose for the 10th consecutive month in February amid growing confidence among buyers, the Massachusetts Association of Realtors said today.
The number of single-family homes put under agreement last month was up 44.2 percent over February 2011. It was the largest year-over-year increase since the association began tracking the data. Pending sales were up 18.3 percent over January.
Meanwhile, the number of condominiums put under agreement rose 35.3 percent over February 2011. Pending sales were up 20 percent over January.
The association calls the figures a leading indicator of actual housing sales for the following two to three months. "If these pending sales hold together through closing, we have the potential for impressive increases in April and May closings," said Trisha McCarthy, president of the association.
