Worcester-based Edward M. Kennedy Community Health Center (Kennedy CHC) celebrated the grand opening of its new Framingham facility on Oct. 4, which combines two former Framingham sites under one roof.
The Kennedy CHC Framingham site provides primary care for more than 4,200 adult and pediatric patients, according to Kennedy CHC. The center, located at 354 Waverly St., expects to increase that number by more than 50 percent in the next two years, and the larger, renovated site makes that possible, it said.
"Our new location at 354 Waverly St. gives us significantly more space to see patients than we had before," said John Hess, vice president of Planning at Kennedy CHC.
The Kennedy CHC's two previous Framingham locations at 19 Concord St. and 72 Union Ave. had nine examination rooms combined. The new site features 14 examination rooms in the 7,800 square-foot space, according to Kennedy CHC. The new site also features a larger waiting area, and a medical laboratory.
Dental services will continue to be provided at a third Framingham site, located at 32 Concord St.
State and local officials joined Kennedy CHC staff at the new center, located at 354 Waverly St., for the opening last week. The $12 million renovation project was paid for by a combination of federal and state funds and private grants, including a $6.4 million Affordable Care Act grant, a MassDevelopment Bond issued by TD Bank and a $1 million grant from the MetroWest Health Foundation.
