Gov. Deval Patrick and U.S. Rep. Barney Frank, D-Newton, said today that a project to design a new intersection between Interstate 495 and Route 44 in Middleborough will get a $2 million boost.
The rotary intersection project was under review but put on hold in 2003. Now, a MassWorks grant will put $2 million into the design, engineering and environmental review for the replacement of the rotary.
Patrick said the state Department of Transportation has been asked to consider short-term and long-term options to ease congestion at the intersection.
