Additional adult care services from Tufts Medical Center of Boston will be offered at Framingham-based MetroWest Medical Center as part of an expanded partnership between the two hospitals.
The two hospitals will work together to determine what types of Tufts Medical Center services will be provided in the MetroWest region. MWMC operates Framingham Union Hospital and the Leonard Morse Hospital in Natick.
As part of the enhanced agreement, Tufts Medical Center will also become MWMC's "preferred referral partner."
The 165 doctors that are part of the MetroWest Accountable Healthcare Group at the MetroWest Medical Center will also join the New England Quality Care Alliance, the physician network of Tufts Medical Center.
The two hospitals have had a relationship since February 2009 when Tufts Medical Center opened the Floating Hospital Pediatric Specialty Center in Framingham. The center provides 10 specialty care services in MetroWest so that patients do not have to travel into Boston.
