Navjeet Bal, who served as revenue commissioner during Gov. Deval Patrick's administration, was named Friday as the new president and CEO of MassDevelopment, the state's development finance agency.
The Executive Office of Economic Development announced the appointment, saying it was approved Friday by the MassDevelopment board.
Bal plans to begin her new job on Dec. 9, her assignment coming as the state implements a nearly $4 billion economic development law.
Bal most recently spent nearly 10 years at the Social Finance Inc., working as general counsel and chief compliance officer. She worked at Mintz Levin, Nixon Peabody for 18 years and as revenue commissioner from 2008 to 2011. She earned her bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Williams College and juris doctor from Northeastern University School of Law. She serves on the Boston Public Library board.
Former Lawrence Mayor Dan Rivera stepped down from the MassDevelopment CEO job in April, more than two years before his contract was set to expire.
