Holy Cross Building Gets Gold Energy Rating

The $64 million Integrated Science Complex that the College of the Holy Cross opened earlier this year has received a LEED gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council for its energy efficiency.

The four-story building includes laboratory space and serves as a link between the college's existing science and social science buildings. The renovation of another academic hall on campus was also part of the construction.

Features of the new building include high performance lighting systems, low-flow fume hoods in the laboratories and having more than 40 percent of the materials used in the construction be made from recycled materials. Also, almost 60 percent of the materials were manufactured within 500 miles of the college.

The school is also moving forward with a new $20 million townhouse-style residence hall on campus that will add 156 new beds to the college.
