Marc Bergeron

Age: 36

Title: Senior Wetland Scientist /Senior Project Manager

Company: VHB

Company location: Worcester

Residence: Blackstone

College: Springfield College

Career highlights: I am a senior wetland scientist and project manager at VHB’s Worcester office. As a member of the firm’s environmental group, I support the siting and permitting of a variety of project types with a particular focus on energy-related projects, such as electric transmission lines, natural gas pipelines and renewable energy sources. I’ve been working to enhance VHB’s growing energy practice.

Community involvement: I am a lifelong resident of Blackstone and have served on the Blackstone Conservation Commission for five years, two as chair, recently resigning in 2008. While on the commission, I enjoyed being able to use my professional background to help shape the growth of my community while promoting the protection of our natural resources. I also volunteer at the Blackstone Valley Boys and Girls Club, where I have been coaching youth sports and recently served on the committee to develop the Youth of the Year Complex at the club.

Biggest professional success: The relationships I have built with a group of long-term clients. We have a personal and professional relationship that is based on mutual trust, respect and integrity. I find that working with these clients on a regular basis to successfully permit their projects is both personally and professionally rewarding.

Dream job: To play and then coach in a professional soccer league in Europe.

Businessperson he admires most and why: I admire Walt Disney, who came from humble beginnings and had to work hard to achieve his dreams. His passion to educate others still causes us to think about how to make our world a better place. Even thirty years after his death, the world continues to benefit from his legacy.

If you weren’t doing the job you’re doing now, what would you do? I feel satisfied with the job I am doing now. It is rewarding to be able to assist our region’s utility providers as they work to update their infrastructure and exciting to be a part of the development of renewable energy resources in our country.
