Despite adding nearly 7,500 jobs in August, Massachusetts unemployment rate held steady at 7.2 percent, according to a state survey.
The Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development found that the Bay State added 4,100 education and health services jobs, 1,500 leisure and hospitality jobs, and 1,100 manufacturing jobs.
Despite the growth, unemployment remained steady due to 1,200 new workers entering the employment market over the past month. Unemployment is up 0.4 percent over August 2012, according to the report.
Massachusetts workforce has expanded by nearly 20,000 over the past year, the survey found.
