Transportation Sector Pulls Down Durables

New orders for durable goods fell $1.5 billion, or 0.8 percent, in September, dragged down by a $4 billion plunge in transportation equipment, the U.S. Census Bureau announced.

Excluding transportation equipment, orders for durables rose 1.7 percent.

Orders for transportation equipment - goods generally associated with airlines, railroad companies and trucking firms - fell 7.5 percent to $49.6 billion.
