As mental health disorders continue to be a mounting issue both state and nationwide, a new research company working to advance clinical trials for behavioral health indications has opened its doors in Worcester.

Vitalix Clinical, located at 554 Main St., opened its doors on Nov. 1. Specializing in clinical trials, the firm is trialing a non-opioid medication used to treat moderate to severe opioid-use disorder in those newly seeking treatment, according to a Wednesday press release from Vitalix.

"Our mission at Vitalix Clinical is to bridge the gap between research and real-world impact," Matthew Collins, Vitalix founder and CEO, said in the release. "We’re committed to providing residents of Worcester and surrounding areas access to innovative treatments and opportunities to play a vital role in advancing medicine."

Vitalix collaborates with pharmaceutical and biotech companies to access diverse patient populations including underserved individuals and communities facing barriers to accessing care. The research firm partners with assisted living and long-term care facilities to enroll geriatric patients in clinical trials including those related to Alzheimer's disease, dementia, and other cognitive decline disorders, according to Vitalix’s website.

While participating in trials, Vitalix patients receive mental health care from counselors and psychiatrists.

The company’s Worcester opening marked its first location as Vitalix subsequently introduced a second location in Kissimmee, Florida in December.

Vitalix is recruiting participants for its opioid-use disorder medication trial as well as other behavioral health studies.
