The wages and salaries of women working full time in Massachusetts inched closer to those of full-time male workers than ever before in 2011, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).
Women in Massachusetts had the second-highest median weekly earnings in the country, at $853, second only to Connecticut, the BLS said.
Though the pay gap is narrowing in the Bay State, it remains slightly larger than the national average. Across the country, women earned median weekly pay of $684, or 82.2 percent of the median pay for men. In Massachusetts, women earned 80.6 percent of what their male counterparts earned.
The ratio of women’s to men’s earnings in the state has climbed in each of the last four years after reaching a low of 74.8 percent in 2007.
The state with the narrowest gender gap was California at 89.9 percent. The largest gap was 68.7 percent in Louisiana.
