Report: U.S. Added 145K-165K Jobs In December

California-based TrimTabs Investments Research estimates that the U.S. economy added between 145,000 and 165,000 jobs in December.

The company issues its estimate, which is based on daily income tax deposits to the U.S. Treasury, just prior to the official monthly government estimate from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

TrimTabs said wage growth accelerated in December compared to November’s, likely due to the shifting of employee bonuses for tax reasons.

TrimTabs said it was issuing a range instead of single figure this month because year-end bonuses make it more difficult to estimate job gains. Employers were anticipating tax hikes last month from the so-called fiscal cliff, and likely issued bonuses in December rather than January or February to take advantage of lower tax rates, the firm said.

Congress reached a last-minute deal Tuesday on the fiscal cliff that will avert scheduled income tax hikes for anyone earning less than $400,000.
