Spring Bank Pharmaceuticals of Hopkinton is working with Swiss pharmaceutical giant Roche on its developmental oncology drug.

Spring Bank, which announced the partnership Tuesday, said it will work with Roche on a drug it is on early clinical trials on to treat those with advanced solid tumors. The first patient received a dose for the trial in the fourth quarter of last year, and Spring Bank plans to generate enough data from the early trial stage by the end of the year to advance to the second phase of testing.

Spring Bank and Roche are exploring the use of Spring Bank's intravenously administered drug with Roche's Tecentriq, a cancer drug. Spring Bank's treatment is being tested alone in patients first, and then in combination with Tecentriq, the brand name for the drug atezolizumab, with which Spring Bank said it believes its drug is more effective.

The trial of Spring Bank's drug, called SB 11285 during development, is being conducted at multiple sites across the United States.
