Pakachoag Music School of Greater Worcester has named Nick Adams as its incoming executive director, succeeding the Worcester school’s former leader who retired after more than three decades in the role.

"The school's commitment to accessible, high-quality music education aligns perfectly with my belief in the transformative power of the arts,” Adams said in a Wednesday press release from Pakachoag. “Our goal will be simple: a musical organization of, for, and by its community."

Adams will join Pakachoag effective May 1, bringing with him more than 20 years of arts administration and music performance experience. Most recently served in the same executive director capacity at Cantata Singers, a choral orchestra located in Boston.

"We are thrilled to welcome Nick to lead Pakachoag Music School into its next chapter," Kallin Johnson, president of the Pakachoag board of directors, said in the release. "Nick's extensive background in arts leadership and his passion for music education make him the ideal person to guide our school's continued growth and community impact."

Adams began his musical career as a professional trombonist in the U.S. Air Force Heartland of America Band. He is an amateur tenor and keyboardist.

Adams replaces interim executive director Kristjon Imperio, who has held the position since March 2024 after joining the school in 2018, according to Pakachoag’s website. Imperio assumed his interim role after the June 2023 retirement of Sarah Smongeski, who had served as the school’s leader since 1992.

Established in 1982, Pakachoag offers instrument and voice lessons and classes for those of all ages including group sessions, private lessons, and summer sessions. Early childhood classes are offered from birth, according to the school’s website.

The nonprofit generated $619,190 in revenues and held $564,439 in assets in fiscal 2022, the most recent year available, according to nonprofit data provider GuideStar.
