Just in time for 4/20, an unofficial holiday celebrating cannabis, a new marijuana delivery service is launching from a Worcester-based facility.

Magic Dragon will provide delivery services to adult residents in the Worcester, Leominster, Marlborough, and Blackstone Valley areas beginning on Sunday, according to a Wednesday press release from the firm. Customers can place orders on the company’s website for same-day delivery seven days a week.

“We created Magic Dragon to solve real problems faced by local cannabis consumers,” Magic Dragon Founder Dave Aiello said in the press release. “People already enjoy the convenience of having food, groceries, alcohol, and other everyday essentials delivered straight to their homes, reducing the need for frequent trips to brick-and-mortar stores. Due to stringent regulations, cannabis delivery hasn't seen the same widespread availability.”

Magic Dragon is the delivery business brand for Uproot, a Worcester-based entity which has a marijuana microbusiness license with the state’s Cannabis Control Commission. This license type allows for cultivation and product manufacturing, and holders of a microbusiness are eligible for an endorsement from the CCC, which allows for direct-to-consumer deliveries.

The platform’s menu is filled with products from Uproot, including cannabis flower, vaporizers, and pre-rolled joints. The firm is launching with no delivery fees, with customers being able to enter their address on the firm’s website in order to determine if they’re in Magic Dragon’s delivery area.

The road to Magic Dragon and Uproots’ opening has been a long one; The company was one of 24 firms responding to a City of Worcester request for proposals to open cannabis businesses in 2018

Uproot has received $500,000 from the state’s Cannabis Social Equity Trust Fund, part of a $25-million statewide effort to boost small businesses with ownership from populations negatively impacted by cannabis prohibition.

"We're proud of our Worcester roots and committed to building something meaningful that benefits local residents and the wider community,” Aiello said in the press release.
