The Natick accounting firm of Sullivan Shuman & Freedberg LLC has merged into Rhode Island-based Kahn, Litwin, Renza & Co. Ltd.
The Natick firm will become KLR's third office. KLR has offices in Providence and Newport, R.I. The addition of 35 employees from Sullivan Shuman will bring KLR's total headcount to 160, according to KLR Managing Director Alan Litwin.
Litwin said the merger will allow his firm to do more business in Eastern Massachusetts, a market that he said is growing faster than Rhode Island's. In fact, he said, the firm hopes to add more space to the Natick location in the anticipation of growth in the future. He said some competitors are reducing their presence in the area, leaving opportunities for KLR.
"We've made a very big commitment to the MetroWest marketplace and we are committed to growing that office," he said.
Litwin said some principals from the Natick firm will join KLR as owners. He said Sullivan Shuman clients can expect access to extra services while working with the staff they already know.
"I think the key thing that we see is that we can bring a much wider array of services and expertise to the clients in the Natick office and to prospects in the greater Boston marketplace," he said.
