Two Central Mass. manufacturers receive $350K from state to support tech upgrades

Two manufacturing firms in Central Massachusetts have received a combined $350,000 in grants from the state to support investments in new technology.

A&M Tool and Design Inc. of Southbridge and Sunny in Leominster received the grants through the Massachusetts Manufacturing Accelerate Program, an effort by the Gov. Maura Healey Administration and Massachusetts Technology Collaborative’s Center for Advanced Manufacturing to support technology upgrades for small- and medium-sized manufacturers.

“Manufacturing is a key driver of the Massachusetts economy. MMAP, along with other CAM programs, allow us to strengthen the sector’s resilience, evolution and workforce,” Lily Fitzgerald, director of CAM at Massachusetts Technology Collaborative, said in a Thursday press release announcing the grants. “MMAP helps small and medium manufacturing companies adopt Industry 4.0 technologies while providing opportunities for workers to increase their skills and broaden their knowledge base to ensure the industry’s continued strength and competitiveness.”

A&M Tool and Design received $200,000. Founded in 1948, the company runs a 200,000-square-foot facility in Southbridge where it manufactures precision parts for industries ranging from aerospace to optics, according to the company’s website.

Sunny received $150,000. The firm is a LGBTQ-founded startup focused on feminine hygiene products, including reusable menstrual cups, according to its website.
