Jan. 30 Deadline For Ice Storm Emergency Loans

Communities that want help from the state in recovering from December’s ice storm must submit their requests by the end of the month.

According to a statement from the Massachusetts Department of Revenue, the state Emergency Board can authorize emergency spending loans for up to two years. The board, made up of the state treasurer or designee, the attorney general or designee and the director of accounts, will hold hearings on requests for the loans around the state. Communities must ask for a hearing by January 30.

The DOR said that state law also allows communities to make emergency expenditures without appropriations in cases of natural disasters.
