BJ's December Sales Up 3.2%

Natick-based BJ's Wholesale Club reported a 3.2 percent December sales increase to $1.06 billion from $1.03 billion in the same month a year ago.

The discounter's same-store sales increased by 1.6 percent during the month as sales totals took a 4.3 percent hit from cheap gasoline. Excluding gasoline, same-store sales were up 5.9 percent. That increase came as two major snow storms hit the northeast and as the company made "an unprecedented level of seasonal price reductions," the company said.

The company said it saw the greatest sales increases in metro New York, New England and the Mid-Atlantic states. It saw sales decreases in the Southeast and Upstate New York.
