Twenty years after he first started volunteering for the Boys & Girls Club of Fitchburg and Leominster, Jeff Bercume has been named the organization’s new CEO.

Bercume comes to the nonprofit having most recently served as director of ecommerce from Berry Global, an Indiana-based plastics manufacturing company, according to his LinkedIn profile.

He brings his experience in systematizing sales and marketing initiatives at a number of both private and public companies to his new role, according to a Thursday press release from the Boys & Girls Club of Fitchburg and Leominster.

“Jeff brings experience, leadership, strategic vision and a passion for our mission in working with youth, that we feel are critical attributes impacting and benefiting the Boys and Girls Club moving forward,” Board Chair Barbara Mahoney said in the release.

Bercume began volunteering for the Boys & Girls Club of Fitchburg and Leominster in 2005, serving meals after the school day ended; he has continued to be involved with the organization ever since.

Bercume replaces Elizabeth Coveney who stepped down from her role as CEO after joining the organization in 2021. She currently works as vice president of McDonald's business unit at Restaurant Technologies, based in Minnesota, according to her LinkedIn profile.

Outside the office, he currently volunteers for DECA, a Virginia-based nonprofit preparing youth for careers in marketing, finance, and hospitality. Additionally, he volunteers as an assistant baseball coach at Saint John’s High School in Shrewsbury.

Bercume graduated with his bachelor’s degree in management and organizational psychology from Merrimack College in North Andover and his master’s degree from Boston College.

“Stepping into this role is both an honor and a calling. Through my years of volunteering with the Boys & Girls Club, I’ve come to deeply admire its commitment to creating safe, supportive spaces where young people can grow, learn, and thrive. I’m energized by the opportunity to make the Club’s mission my own and to help expand the impact our organization has across the communities we serve,” Bercume said in the release.
