Fresh off a deal to avoid a nurses' strike, Worcester-based Saint Vincent Hospital has announced a new president and CEO to take over for John Smithhisler, who resigned from the post in August of last year.
The hospital has selected Eric G. Wexler of Reisterstown, Md., to take the reins.
Wexler joins St. Vincent's from serving as president of Northwest Hospital as well as senior vice president of LifeBridge Health, which owns Northwest.
Wexler has a bachelor's degree and MBA from the University of Hartford in Connecticut. His official start date at St. Vincent's is July 5.
St. Vincent's recently settled a contract dispute with its nurses' union and also announced plans to build a new cancer center at the CitySquare project in downtown Worcester.
