Gov. Deval Patrick announced $6 million in funding today that will help create 3,000 summer jobs for at-risk youth in more than 24 communities, including seven in Central Massachusetts.
The Central Massachusetts Regional Employment Board will receive $378,370 to create 197 youth jobs in Worcester, Milford and Webster. Other regional employment boards in Central Massachusetts will receive a total of $127,427 to create 66 jobs in Framingham, Fitchburg, Gardner and Leominster, according to a statement released by Patrick's office.
Of the total sum, $4 million comes from YouthWorks, a state-funded employment program for at-risk youth ages 14 to 21. Participants in that program are employed 25 hours per week over a six-week period. The remaining $2 million comes from a federal grant program.
Employers wishing to participate in the program and teens looking for summer jobs can call 1-866-968-8461.
