Lancaster-based human services nonprofit RFK Community Alliance has appointed Kathy Mills as interim chief operating officer as the nonprofit’s C-suite executive retired earlier this month.
With more than three decades of human services experience, Mills most recently served as RFK’s vice president of innovation and learning for four years. In her previous role, Mills led the creation of key inclusivity initiatives including the organization’s first diversity, equity, and inclusion staff survey and the development of its theory of change, which defines key RFK domains aligning with its mission. She managed the nonprofit’s performance and quality improvement, training, and organizational advancement, according to a Tuesday press release.
Mills succeeds previous Chief Operating Officer Cindy Wing, who retired following a 20-year career with the agency.
Mills previously worked as vice president of programs at The Health Foundation of Central Massachusetts in Worcester.
A licensed independent clinical social worker, Mills has worked with a number of organizations working to support and protect children throughout the state, including Jewish Family & Children’s Service in Waltham; the Massachusetts Children's Trust in Boston; Futures Without Violence, headquartered in California; and the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children, with its main office in Lexington.
Mills earned her Ph.D. in social policy from Brandeis University’s Heller School for Social Policy and Management in Waltham, her master’s degree in social work from the Simmons University School of Social Work in Boston, and her bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of New Hampshire.
In addition to RFK’s C-suite changeover, the organization has named Dana Green as its new senior vice president of organizational advancement. Green most recently served as national director of advancement at Democracy House in Cambridge and brings more than 20 years of museum and human services experience to her new role.
Green earned her master’s degree from Harvard University in Cambridge and her bachelor’s degree from the University of Connecticut.
Founded in 1896, RFK supports individuals and families facing complicated challenges through a range of services including an adoption center, youth and adult day residential care, and special education schools, according to the nonprofit’s website.
With $43.8 million in total revenue as of June 30, 2023, RFK is the 14th largest human services nonprofit in Central Massachusetts when ranked by total revenue for the most recent fiscal year available, according to data collected by WBJ’s Research Department.
