Inventories Up As Sales Slow In June

In what may be a bad sign for the United States' economic recovery, inventories held by businesses increased in June for the sixth consecutive month as sales continued to fall, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

Inventories were up 0.1 percent compared to May. May's inventories increased by 0.2 percent compared to April. Inventories were down 0.3 percent compared to June 2009.

Sales were down 0.7 percent from May to June, and were down from April to May, as well, following more than a year of growth.

Still, sales outpaced June 2009 by 12.9 percent.
