Virtusa, a digital engineering and IT firm based in Southborough, has named Nitesh Banga as its next president and CEO.

The former president and CEO of California-based GlobalLogic, a subsidiary of Japanese conglomerate Hitachi, Banga replaces former Virtusa leader Santosh Thomas, who is stepping down to pursue outside opportunities, according to a Thursday press release from the firm. Banga took over the role on Monday.

"I am deeply honored to step into this role at such a pivotal moment of change in the industry, and the world," Banga said in the press release. "In this new era, the advantage will rest with enterprises who drive with a hyper focus on their customers' needs through adoption of digital and AI technologies coupled with a robust data strategy.”

Banga has nearly 30 years of technology service industry experience, having spent over 20 years at India-based Infosys, where he served in multiple different leadership roles.

Thomas first joined Virtusa in 2021, having spent 20 years as president for global growth markets for New Jersey-based IT firm Cognizant, according to his LinkedIn profile. He took over as CEO from founder Kris Canekeratne, who sold the firm for $2 billion to private equity firm Baring Private Equity Asia in 2021.

Thomas oversaw several acquisitions by the firm and an AI-related collaboration with Amazon announced in January 2024.

"I am immensely proud of the substantial growth we have accomplished together over the past four years at Virtusa. It has been exciting to witness firsthand the positive impact our efforts have had on our people, our clients and their customers," Thomas said in the release.

Virtusa has more than 30,000 employees and 220 clients across 25 countries, according to its website.
