CPI Up 0.3% In July

The Consumer Price Index increased 0.3 percent in July on energy prices that saw their first increase since January, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The index has increased 1.2 percent over the last 12 months.

Increases in the energy index accounted for more than two thirds of the CPI increase. Both the household energy and the gasoline indexes increased after months of steady declines.

The food index declined in July.

The index for all items except for volatile food and energy increased 0.1 percent after increasing 0.2 percent in June.
