The gasoline price website GasBuddy said Thursday it expects the average price of gasoline across the nation to be about $2.35 a gallon during the summer driving season — Memorial Day through Labor Day.
A recent Energy Information Administration (EIA) projection pinned the average summertime price in the U.S. at a dime higher. But either number would represent a summer low since at least 2005, GasBuddy said.
For the last four summers, prices have topped $3.50 a gallon during the summer. Currently, the average gasoline price is $2.34 per gallon in Massachusetts; $2.40 in the nation.
Patrick DeHaan, senior petroleum analyst with GasBuddy. said in the statement: “The latest data from the EIA showed the largest week-to-week buildup of crude oil (10.9 million barrels) since March 2001 and that underscores the downward pressure on fuel prices. So we’re confident in our projection; that the summer of 2015 will see the national average come in at a seasonal level we haven’t approached since 2005.”
