A 3D replica of astronaut Neil Armstrong's Apollo 11 spacesuit is coming to Framingham State University's Christa McAuliffe Center for Integrated Science Learning.
The suit will be put on display for STEM Week, which marks contributions in science, technology, math and engineering, with an open house Oct. 25. The suit was created using 3D scans of Amstrong's spacesuit by the Smithsonian Institution's National Air and Space Museum for the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 landing, according to Framingham State.
The suit will be on display at the university's Christa McAuliffe Center, which is named for the Framingham-raised astronaut who died in the Challenger explosion in 1986.
Framingham State is one of 11 Smithsonian affiliates to receive a spacesuit replica, which is made of resin and includes an interactive component allowing for scanning parts with an app to access videos and additional information about Apollo 11 and astronauts. The suit had been on display at Fenway Park in Boston as part of the Smithsonian's summer program of displaying suits at ballparks across the country.
