Worcester insurer Fallon Health is opening an elder care program at a new medical building on Grove Street in Worcester.

The new Summit ElderCare site includes larger day rooms for meals and socializing, additional space for rehab and activities including a much larger library, a salon and two quiet rooms, Fallon said.

The Summit ElderCare program was located for 25 years in a slightly smaller space at 277 E. Mountain St. The new location covers 15,500 square feet in a 51,000 square-foot building at 288 Grove St.

Fallon held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday morning to mark the opening of the new facility.

Summit ElderCare is a joint Medicare and Medicaid program for those 55 and older who need assistance and qualify for nursing home care but wish to remain living independently.
