FDA Approves Genzyme's Framingham Plant

The Framingham manufacturing plant of Cambridge-based biotech company Genzyme has received approval from the U.S. Food & Drug Administration to produce the company's Fabrazyme drug.

As part of the announcement, the company said Fabrazyme is expected to return to full supply levels this year.

The company's supply chain for the drug was reduced after a 2009 incident at the company's Allston facility, which delayed shipments to patients of the rare Fabry disease.

Genzyme is owned by Sanofi, a French biotech company.
