Assumption University in Worcester has appointed E. Jane Clapp as its new vice president for finance and administration and chief financial officer, assuming the role come Jan. 2.
A certified public accountant, Clapp most recently served as controller and chief accounting officer at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, spearheading initiatives in capital planning, debt management, and endowment growth while overseeing university assets and expenditures. She has held the role since May 2022, according to a Thursday press release from Assumption.
“I am excited to welcome Jane Clapp to the Assumption community as our Chief Financial Officer,” Assumption’s President Greg Weiner said in the release. “As Controller at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Jane oversaw a variety of departments, implementing important institution-wide improvements, showing her dedication to strategic institutional growth. I am eager to work with Jane as she helps Assumption grow and bring Thrive, our 10-year strategic plan, to fruition.”
Launched in 2024, the university’s Thrive initiative outlines 16 goals to be completed by 2034, according to Assumption’s website. The goals fall under three pillars: focus, centered around prioritizing the needs of students and fostering a culture of wellbeing; infusion, aimed at cultivating a shared understanding of the university’s education throughout academics, student life, and operations; and growth, increasing enrollments, philanthropic, support, and revenue streams.
Clapp will replace Christian McCarthy, Assumption’s interim executive vice president for finance and administration, wrote Olivia Boudreau, Assumption public relations specialist, in a Thursday email to WBJ. McCarthy has served in his interim role since July, stepping in for Peter Wells, who held the position since 2014.
“I am honored to join President Weiner and his team at Assumption University as we embrace a future guided by distinction and purpose,” Clapp said in the release. “I am excited to help support Assumption’s growth as a premier institution where students are empowered to lead meaningful lives that include rewarding careers.”
Clapp graduated with her bachelor of business administration in accounting and a graduate certificate in public administration from Boise State University in Idaho and is currently a candidate for a master of business administration degree from Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
