Developer purchases Hardwick mill for $5M cannabis project

A real estate developer with plans for a cannabis establishment bought a former mill in Hardwick for $500,000 on Dec. 16, according to real estate database CoStar.

George Lang purchased the mill at 94 Main St. In April, he proposed a $5-million adaptive reuse plan at a community outreach meeting in Hardwick.

The roughly 113,000-square-foot mill is split into three buildings, one of which is slated for a 50,000- to 60,000-square-foot cannabis cultivation facility called Hardwick Mills Greenery. The other two structures will be available to be used for restaurant, office, or retail space, with the possibility of becoming a marijuana dispensary.

The four-story mill was built in 1910, according to the Hardwick assessors’ data, and was last sold in 2018 for $300,000. The Town of Hardwick assesses the property at $321,000.

Lang has commercial and condominium developments in Braintree.

I have much less of a problem with the mill being used for this, as the mill was industrial in the first place. Not saying I'm for it, but it's not as offensive as the group who bought Meadowbrook Farm for a massive, industrial, marijuana monstrosity. That property used to be a quiet farm that did horse events, haying and other activities that fit in with that section of town. To allow these greedy business people and outsiders to destroy that property, and bring trucks, traffic, noise, and crime to that area is despicable, selfish, and inappropriate. People move to Hardwick to find quiet, peace, a safe community, and no traffic. They expect to see horses, cows, hay bales, and corn fields. I pray that these horrible business people who only care about profits, greed, and power are sent packing. It's a shame that the previous owner chose to only see $$ when he sold the property to these creeps.

Marijuana has NO BUSINESS being in the quiet, kid-friendly town of Hardwick. Find somewhere else.
