Consumer Price Index Flat In November

The consumer price index, which measures cost of living, was flat in November as Americans paid more for food and clothing but less for energy, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Falling gas prices led the second monthly decline in energy costs. The energy index fell 1.6 percent in November following a 2 percent decline in October.

On a seasonally unadjusted basis, CPI increased 3.4 percent from a year ago. In the Northeast, CPI climbed 3.2 percent.

Meanwhile, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that real average hourly earnings for Americans fell 0.1 percent from October to November, stemming from a fall in average hourly earnings.
