Confidence Index Lingers Near All-Time Low

The Associated Industries of Massachusetts March Business Confidence Index remained near the all-time low it achieved the previous month.

The index hit 33.5 in March, a tiny increase over February's 33.3 score. The index hasn't hit 50, its neutral mark, since April 2008. The index is based on a 100-point scale. Its highest reading ever was 68.5 achieved in November 1997 and in May 1998.

AIM said despite the lack of change in the index's score, employers surveyed were "a bit more confident in their own firms' situation." Employers told AIM they were more hopeful that business conditions would improve in the next six months.
