Recognition Matters

Managers may think their support staff are hoping their good work will earn them a promotion or some extra money in the bank, but they may really only want to hear the boss say thanks.

That's the finding of a new survey by OfficeTeam and the International Association of Administrative Professionals.

It found that managers rank a promotion as the most valued form of recognition for administrative professionals, followed by cash, then paid time off. But among the administrative workers themselves, getting an in-person thank you and having achievements passed on to senior management tied for the most valued reward.

The survey included 549 administrative professionals in the U.S. and Canada and 300 managers in the U.S.

The results are included in a report called Recognize Results: Drive Success Through Employee Recognition.
