A clean energy purchasing program launched by the states of Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island has received numerous Central Massachusetts bids to deliver clean energy.
The states came together in November to put out a request for proposal (RFP) from energy companies, combining the requirements of the states to seek a better price. In the RFP, Massachusetts is seeking the creation of or access to an additional 817 GWh per year of clean energy.
EDP-ib vogt Solar, LLC, which is headquartered in Rhode Island, put in a bid to install or provide over 200 MW of solar in Fitchburg, Gardner, Hopkinton and in parts of Connecticut. Brookfield Renewable Power, with US headquarters in Marlborough, has offered up hydro power as part of the Clean Energy Connect group of bidding, which is a bundled bid involving Eversource, EDP Renewables and others. Ameresco, headquartered in Framingham, has bid 20 MW of solar to be sited in New Milford, Conn.
All bids were due at the end of January and will be evaluated based on their ability to not only provide power, but other factors including environmental and economic impact.
