The unemployment rate in Central Massachusetts fell in June year-over-year, although the numbers were an increase from last month’s figures.
The unemployment rate in Worcester hit 4.7 percent in June, according to a release from the Massachusetts Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development of the seasonally unadjusted unemployment and job estimates.
This is a decline from June 2015 numbers of 5.6-percent unemployment but an increase from May’s figure of 4.1 percent. The Leominster-Gardner area experienced a similar outcome, with June unemployment numbers at 5.1 percent, down from last June’s 6.2-percent figure but up from last month’s 4.5-percent figure.
Employment in Worcester was up slightly in June over may, with 1,228 people added to the region’s workforce that rose to 333,389 people.
