Marlborough-based Boston Scientific is continuing its acquisition spree with the buyout of the gynecology and urology portfolio of Distal Access, LLC.
The portfolio from the Salt Lake City, UT, company that makes minimally invasive medical devices includes the Resectr Tissue Resection Device, a single-use solution designed to effectively remove uterine polyps. According to Boston Scientific, nearly 80 percent of women will develop one or more polyps in their lifetime and polyps should be removed in order to determine if they are benign or contain malignant or pre-malignant cells. More than 400,000 of these procedures are done annually.
Financial details of the deal were not disclosed in the Tuesday morning announcement of the deal, but the company reported the acquisition is immaterial to earnings per share in 2016 and 2017.
The move comes on the back of numerous other acquisitions from the company, including a planned $210-million purchase of of EndoChoice Holdings, Inc. in Georgia and a deal similar to the one announced today that resulted in the company obtaining technology that can enhance endoscopic surgery for precancerous lesions and malignant tumors in the gastrointestinal tract.
