Marlborough medical device manufacturer Boston Scientific has promoted Miriam O’Sullivan to the C-suite position senior vice president and chief human resources officer.
O’Sullivan has spent her 13-year tenure with the manufacturer within its human resources department. She joined the company in 2012 as director of human resources for its Cork, Ireland, site, and she most recently served as Boston Scientific’s group vice president of human resources, cardiology.
In her most recent role, she managed the firm’s cardiology businesses, including interventional cardiology therapies and cardiac rhythm management and diagnostics, according to a Wednesday press release from Boston Scientific.
“Miriam has a broad base of HR experience with a demonstrated ability to lead large-scale business transformations,” Michael Mahoney, Boston Scientific chairman and CEO, said in the release. “Her strong relationships across the company and her commitment to fostering a culture of inclusion and engagement make Miriam well suited to succeed Wendy in this role.”
O’Sullivan succeeds Wendy Carruthers, who will retire come February.
“We thank Wendy for her outstanding leadership and relentless focus on talent, culture and organizational effectiveness throughout her 20-year career with Boston Scientific,” Mahoney said.
O’Sullivan earned her bachelor’s degree in French from University of Limerick in Ireland and a diploma in employment law from the National College of Ireland.
The announcement of O’Sullivan’s hiring came the same day as Boston Scientific announced the manufacturer had entered into a purchase agreement to acquire California-based medical equipment manufacturer Bolt Medical for up to $664 million. Boston Scientific expects the transaction to be completed in the first half of 2025.
With 2,800 employees in Central Massachusetts, Boston Scientific is the second largest manufacturer in Central Massachusetts when ranked by total employees, according to data compiled by the WBJ’s Research Department. Founded in 1979, the company generated $14.2 billion in revenue in 2023 with 48,000 employees worldwide.
