Marketing Communications Manager, WSP Sells
Company location: Charlton
Residence: Dudley
Age: 37
Career highlights: An internship at my undergraduate college’s alumni office led to my first job at a local university. Since then, I’ve advanced professionally by working in marketing and communications for a nonprofit, a specialty food distributor and a radiology association. I am currently the marketing communications manager for WSP SELLS, a transportation and infrastructure engineering firm.
Community involvement: I have been active with the Federated Church of Charlton as a Sunday-school teacher, a member of the religious education committee and am currently on the church’s 250th anniversary committee. In addition, I am committed to raising awareness and funds for organizations and charities that focus on concerns and issues that have directly impacted my family and friends, including the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation, the American Cancer Society, and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
Biggest success: At my previous position, I was the communications manager at a radiology association and when the executive director left, the board asked me to provide interim management and leadership while a national search ensued. During the seven-month period, I successfully balanced my own workload and responsibilities while taking on the operational responsibilities, financial integrity, consulting contracts and staff concerns. These leadership capabilities and experiences are something that I can take with me along my career path.
Biggest challenge: I believe my biggest professional challenge has been keeping my focus on an ever-changing moving target. That sometimes requires me to step out of my comfort zone. As priorities, the market, the economy or staffing changes, flexibility has been critical to my success.
