A firm specializing in workplace scheduling software has chosen Marlborough as its base for United States operations.
Smartway2 is in a small office on Cedar Hill Street in Marlborough, in a location CEO John Anderson sees as near enough to Boston and Worcester and their workforces. Anderson, who lives in Hopkinton, said the firm needs easy access to Logan International Airport in Boston because it has an office in London as well.
"It's a good place to attract talent," Anderson said.
The five-year-old company is still small — it has six workers in the U.S. — but expects that number to double this year. Smartway2 has nearly 30 employees in all, including sales, marketing, support and consulting roles.
Its client base has tripled in the past 12 months, the company says, including a major cancer center, a large global electronics distributor, a major gaming developer and organizations in the legal, government, technology, pharma, manufacturing and finance industries.
Anderson sees high potential for the firm because the scheduling software industry isn't dominated by major corporations, and businesses are increasingly moving away from traditional office work spaces, making reliable scheduling more important. The software includes analytics for how meetings rooms, desks and other resources are being used.
