Wholesale Inventories Edge Upward

Wholesale inventories rose 0.8 percent during July, the U.S. Commerce Department announced.

Inventories totaled $462.4 billion at the end of July, slightly higher than the June total, but 15.1 percent higher compared with July 2010.

Inventories of durable goods at the end of July were up 1 percent from June and 12 percent from July 2010. Meanwhile, inventories of computers, computer peripheral equipment and software rose 3.7 percent within the month. Stockpiles of machinery, equipment and supplies were up 1.3 percent.
