UMass Memorial Hospital Receives Stroke Care Award

Worcester's UMass Memorial Medical Center has been recognized by the American Heart Association and the American Stroke Association for its stroke care program.
The hospital, which is part of the UMass Memorial Health Care system, achieved 12 consecutive months of 85 percent or higher adherence to quality-of-care guidelines to receive the Get With the Guidelines Stroke Silver Plus Performance Achievement Award.
Guidelines included aggressive use of medications to treat strokes and educational programs to inform patients of how to recover from strokes.
Strokes are the third leading cause of death in the country, according to the associations.
