After a short hiatus, Rapscallion Pub is back in business with plans to reopen at 3 Arnold Road in the Fiskdale area of Sturbridge on Feb. 24, the company confirmed Friday.

Rapscallion Pub closed in July 2021 after a plan with a partnering restaurant fell through and the brewery was unable to meet the food requirements of its liquor license. During the hiatus, the owners focused on expanding their Spencer production facility and renovating the Sturbridge space. The reopening of the pub marks the company's fourth outpost under the Rapscallion name.

The official opening date is still forthcoming, but the company has said it hopes to open its doors in the coming weeks.

Rapscallion began in the fall of 2013, when co-owner Cedric Daniels and his twin brother took over the brewing facility and the taproom at Sturbridge-based Hyland Orchards. In Jan. 2020, the company left its original Hyland Orchards location and opened a new manufacturing facility in Spencer, which also features a taproom.

Rapscallion Brewery brewed its first batch of beer in Spencer last August and has produced 20,000, 12 oz. cans at the facility to date.

At the same time, Rapscallion Pub moved to its new Sturbridge location and began renovations on a 2,000-square-foot building. The plan originally called for moving to the top floor while a farm fresh restaurant, Homefield Kitchen & Brewery, would be located on the bottom floor, allowing Rapscallion to meet its license’s food requirement.

When Homefield Kitchen & Brewery backed out of the arrangement, Rapscallion took over the restaurant’s lease and redesigned the building to include a kitchen, lounge, and internal stairway to connect the two levels.

“The first phase is that we have a kitchen to accommodate our liquor license and bar upstairs. The second phase we are going to have a lounge/bar downstairs this year, hopefully in two to three months,” Daniels said.

In addition to Rapscallion Pub in Sturbridge and Rapscallion Brewery & Taproom in Spencer, Daniels and his twin brother also manage Rapscallion Table & Tap in Acton and Rapscallion Kitchen & Bar in Concord.

“The goal is to have venues where people can go and relax and enjoy cuisine and beverages that are unique,” Daniels said.
