Gov. Charlie Baker and a litany of Massachusetts healthcare officials announced Thursday a new public-private partnership to help the state to grab a bigger slice of the $32-billion digital health industry.
The digital health industry is a rapidly growing sector at the intersection of health care and information technology and includes electronic health records, consumer wearable devices, care systems, payment management, Big Data analytics and telemedicine. Massachusetts has 250 digital health companies and a report by investment firm Goldman Sachs estimates the market will grow to $32 billion globally in the next decade.
The partnership announced Thursday teams government officials with those in the healthcare and technology industries – including Boston Children’s Hospital – to create an economic environment conducive to launching and growing digital health companies.
The first step in the new initiative is a partnership between City of Boston, Massachusetts eHealth Institute at MassTech , and Massachusetts Competitive Partnership to establish a digital health innovation hub in Boston where startups can thrive.
