Under a new agreement, the Southboro Medical Group, an affiliate of Newton-based nonprofit Atrius Health, will host doctors from the Heart Center of MetroWest.
Medical group executives said teaming with the heart center will allow the group to expand its offerings while keeping its costs low. The arrangement also gives the Southborough group the ability to offer advanced care. The heart center is an affiliate of the Cardiovascular Group at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston.
The two practices will also share an electronic medical records system.
Richard S. Blumenfeld, the only cardiologist of the 65 physicians in the Southboro Medical Group's multi-specialty practice, will become a heart center employee and will continue to see patients at the group's Framingham office.
Harvey L. Goldfine, a heart center cardiologist, will begin seeing patients at the group's Southborough office.
The heart center employs 13 heart specialists. The Southboro Medical Group has offices in Southborough, Framingham, Natick, Milford and Marlborough.
