Virtusa, a provider of information technology and digital strategy services based in Southborough, has signed a multi-year collaboration agreement with Seattle-based Amazon Web Services to allow Virtusa to open four artificial intelligence and data labs.

The strategic collaboration agreement has allowed Virtusa to open four generative AI labs, with one existing virtually and the other three operating in New York, London, and Singapore. The intent of the agreement is to expedite the migration of customer data to remote servers by integrating AI and machine learning technologies, according to a release issued by Virtusa on Wednesday.

"Our strategic collaboration agreement with AWS marks a pivotal moment in Virtusa's commitment to delivering cutting-edge solutions for data migration and IT modernization," Ram Meenakshisundaram, chief technology officer of Virtusa, said in the release. "The Virtusa Generative AI & Data Lab solidifies our dedication to driving efficient business modernization to create value for customers.”

The labs created through this partnership, referred to as Generative AI & Data Labs, will guide corporate customers through the process of creating business strategies and operational roadmaps involving data migration, seeking to accelerate their adoption of generative AI and machine learning technology.

This partnership will help customers leverage AWS’ existing services, including Amazon Bedrock, a service for building generative AI applications.

Founded in 1996, Virtusa was founded by Kris Cankeratne, who left the company in 2021 after it was acquired by a financial services firm for $2 billion. The company has partnerships with a number of large technology-focused companies, including AWS, Microsoft, and Google, according to its website.
