SBA honors Jack's Abby, Marlborough maintenance firm

Framingham brewery Jack's Abby and SCS Building Maintenance of Marlborough have been honored by the U.S. Small Business Administration.
The federal agency announced honors for both MetroWest companies along with others statewide this week. They and other winners will receive their awards May 4 at an event in Needham.
Jack's Abby was named Small Business Manufacturer of The Year. The brewer has gained a loyal following since its 2011 opening, including expanding its Framingham brewery, opening the sister brewer Springdale and distributing into Connecticut, upstate New York and Vermont. The company said last month it will start distributing Springdale in the Philadelphia region.
Jack's Abby sales grew by about 73 percent in 2016, according to SBA. It now has more than 130 employees and brews more than 100,000 barrels of beer a year.
The brewery was founded by brothers Jack, Eric and Sam Hendler.
SCS Building Maintenance was named a Graduate of The Year of the SBA's 8(a) program, which helps businesses owned by what it says are socially and economically disadvantaged people or entities. The company is run by President and CEO Trevor Rhone, who started SCS 14 years ago after gaining expertise in the commercial cleaning industry for years.
The business now has more than 100 employees and serves federal, commercial and private-sector clients throughout the country.
